(1) at least 20 natural teeth present
(2) probing depth of at least 4mm and clinical attachment loss of at least 2mm in all quadrants of the mouth.
(3) smokers group having subjects smoking at least 10 cigarettes/bidis per day
(4) non smokers group having subjects who have never smoked cigarettes or any other form of tobacco.
(5) willingness to comply with the study protocol.
(1) existing systemic disease that may affect the severity or progression of periodontal disease.
(2) medication consumption that may influence the periodontium (e.g. non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics) within 6 months preceding the beginning of intervention.
(3)subjects undergoing orthodontic treatment or extensive restorations
(4) patients with aggressive periodontitis or multiple caries
(5) patients during pregnancy or lactation
(6) patients allergic to doxycycline or ketoprofen
