Brief Summary: The study is a community-based cross-sectional study aims to study the prevalence of assistive device usage and the HRQoL among older adults in a selected rural village of Kozhikode district, Kerala. The study’s primary objectives are to determine the prevalence of assistive device usage, assess functional independence and well-being among assistive device users, and determine the HRQoL among assistive device users of older adults in a selected village of Kozhikode district, Kerala. Data collection will be done from 1st April 2023 to 31st May 2023 using validated questionnaires (PIADS and EQ-5D-5L). Sample size calculation was done using the prevalence of assistive device usage among older adults, by adding the 10% non-response rate final sample size is calculated (359). Many studies have been conducted worldwide regarding disabilities and Assistive Devices (AD) usage among older adults. However, there are only a few studies conducted in India regarding disabilities among older adults, and there is no study from India regarding the QoL among older adults using ADs. This study also tries to understand the barriers associated with the accessibility of ADs among self-reported disabled older adults.

Individuals aged 60 years and above residing at selected village.

Exclusion Criteria

Older adults who are disabled or handicapped by birth, Known case of poliomyelitis, Known psychiatric cases, Older adults who canâ€™t answer the questionnaire by themselves.
