- Brief Summary
It is estimated that only 5-15 percent of people living with disabilities and
requiring Assistive Technology (AT) in low and lower-middle income
countries have access to such devices (WHO, 2017). 1 The importance of the provision of AT has been highlighted in national legislation and policies
in India, including the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016.
A poor match between the assistive device (AD) provided and the real
needs of the user leads to failure to achieve the desired outcome and as a result abandonment of the device.
The proposed research is to evaluate the usability and perceived quality of Assistive Devices provided by the District Disability Rehabilitation Center to persons with disability (PWDs) in the Bangalore Rural District, with an aim to improve design and usability, using available technology. This exercise would benefit this vulnerable group and improve their functional capabilities and their overall quality of life.
