- Brief Summary
Aim:To study the efficacy of USG and CT in preoperative staging differentiated thyroid carcinomas as compared to intraop and histopathological findings. To determine their diagnostic value.
Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), which includes papillary and follicular cancer, comprises the vast majority (>90%) of all thyroid cancers. Ultrasound being a cheap diagnostic imaging is widely used for preoperative imaging of differentiated thyroid carcinomas. CT is recommended by American Thyroid Association for staging and assessment of distant metastasis in patient showing multiple lymph node involvement in the ultrasound. Studies show combined USG and CT have showed higher sensitivity than the use of USG alone and studies also show higher sensitivity of ultrasound combined with CT than of CT in the preoperative detection of lateral compartment metastasis. This study will help in better understanding the preoperative staging of the disease and further improve the line of management.
