Patients: adults (= 18 years old), ICU admission = 48 h, artificially ventilated
Patients' family members: adults (= 18 years old), adequate knowledge of German for interview, informed consent
ICU personell: adults (= 18 years old), informed consent

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Development of two family meeting manuals in the intensive care unit; one each for intensivists and the ICU nursing staff. Methodically, the meeting manuals are derived from the results of an online survey, and the analysis of 40 authentic family meetings (20 physicians and patients' relatives, 20 nurses and patients' relatives).
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Evaluation of the family meeting manuals based on the objective level of comprehension (diagnosis, therapy, prognosis) immediately after family meetings in the ICU by oral interview, and risk for PICS-F 90 days after patients' discharge from ICU.
