Diagnosis of T2DM for at least 2 years,stable weight, defined as no significant change (3%) over the 3 months prior to enrollment, and evidence of stable treatment with oral hypoglycemic therapy and or insulin for at least 12 months.
Patients with C-peptide levels below 0.9 ng/ml, positive anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) test, elderly patients (66 years), previous major upper abdominal surgery, pregnancy, patients with malignant or debilitating diseases, severe pulmonary or cardiac diseases, severe renal disease (glomerular filtration rate below 30 ml/min), taking appetite suppressant medication, eating disorder such as bulimia or binge-eating, and obesity due to any other endocrine disorder.
