Inclusion Criteria

Group With Bipolar Disorder:

Individuals having the primary diagnosis of bipolar type I by psychiatrist based on standard DSM diagnostic criteria

Patients should be in the euthymic mood state for past 2 months

Participants should have been on stable medication regime (Lithium or sodium valproate) since 3 months.

Participants on same dosage of primary medication (Lithium or sodium valproate) since last 3 months

Group with Normal Controls:

Adults not meeting the diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder or any other mental illness

Participants will be matched on an individual basis for age, gender and education level.

Exclusion Criteria

Group With Bipolar Disorder:

Participants with neurological conditions/history of substance abuse past 6 months / schizoaffective disorder/ epilepsy / traumatic brain injury.

Participants with history of electroconvulsive therapy in 6 months, use of topiramate or benzodiazepines in the past 2 weeks.

Group with Normal Controls:

Participants with any history of psychiatric illness or first degree relative with history of affective disorders, dementia, cerebrovascular disease

Participants with history of substance abuse (except nicotine).
