The target population is healthy physically inactive adults with overweight and obesity aged 18-34 years living in Thailand. Participants will be classified as having overweight or obesity if they have a BMI between >22.9 kg/m2 and 35.0 kg/m2. Insufficient physical activity or physical inactivity will be defined as not achieving the current physical activity guidelines by World Health Organization (2020) (i.e., <150 minutes per week for moderate-intensity physical activity or <75 minutes per week for vigorous-intensity physical activity).
Potential subjects will be excluded from the study if they (i) engage in any structured exercise, (ii) are current smokers, (iii) have a known history of cardiovascular diseases or diabetes, (iv) regularly drink caffeine beverages, (v) have any condition or injuries that would affect treadmill exercise, (vi) are taking medications known to affect lipid or glucose metabolism and heart rate, (vii) have systolic blood pressure > 139 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure > 89 mm Hg and (viii) have fasting blood glucose > 6.9 mmol/L or HbA1c > 6.4%.
