All patients will receive conventional cardiac surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass with no change in the routine practice of the hospital. For normal controls we will be taking 50 biopsies from right ventricle from hearts which have been donated for homograft banking or from forensic autopsies where there is no history or pathological evidence of pre-existing right heart failure ie death due to unrelated causes.
