According to WHO, Occupational health should aim at the promotion and maintenance of

highest degree of physical, mental and social wellbeing of workers in all occupations.

In today’s world, workers across all industries are experiencing more health problems due to

their work environment, especially among computer users, according to occupational health

experts.

Occupational health is vital for employee’s well-being and productivity and it profoundly

influences a nation’s economy, with Information Technology (IT) professionals playing a

significant role; however, their heavy reliance on screens can disrupt sleep patterns.

Sleep disruption is characterized by difficulty in initiating, maintaining, or improving sleep,

leading to daytime impairment. Additionally, insufficient sleep hampers daytime productivity

and work efficiency, in turn adversely affecting overall Quality of Life.

IT employees on an average spend around 7-8 hours daily on digital screens for work, with

additional time allocated for personal device use, which can be considered as Atiyoga.

This dependency to digital devices adversely affects both physical and mental health, notably

leading to poor sleep quality.

Good sleep gives rest and rejuvenates the body and mind, promoting overall health and

providing energy to carry out day-to-day activities.

The screens of electronic devices emit blue light. Blue light is a portion of the visible light

spectrum, which stimulates part of brain that make us feel alert.

While all types of visible light can affect circadian rhythms, blue light has the largest impact

that can influence circadian rhythm, alertness, hormone production and disrupts our natural

sleep cycles.

Blue light suppresses the body’s release of melatonin which plays a vital role in regulating

sleep.

Screen stimulation for just minutes can delay melatonin release by several hours, delaying

sleep signals, desynchronizing the body sleep-wake cycle and hindering deep sleep, crucial

for healing.

Taking a comprehensive view, it is probable that IT Professionals experiences sleep related

problems or disturbances.

Despite knowing the detrimental effects of excessive screen time on our health, we continue

to indulge, likened to committing Prajnaparadha highlighting the need for caution and

proactive measures.

Hence, this survey study is designed to know the quality of sleep based on varied levels of

screen time exposure.

入选标准

  • 1.Study participants of age group between 23 to 45 years will be included irrespective of their gender, religion and socio-economic status.
  • 2.Study participants working in the IT sector for a minimum of 2 years.
  • 4.Study participants of IT Employees who work infront of computers/laptop for more than 6 hours per day.
  • 5.Study participants who are willing to participate.

排除标准

  • 1.Study participants diagnosed with systemic diseases like Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus, neurological disorders.
  • 2.Study participants who are under medications like hypnotics, sedatives, sleep aids or tranquilizers etc., or under any Antipsychotic treatment, regular sleep therapy.
  • 3.Study participants diagnosed with severe psychological illness, or experiencing chronic physical pain.
