Inclusion Criteria
Inpatients with obstrucive arterial disease and planned endarterectomy of the carotid artery
- Age: = 35 years
- At least 4 natural teeth
- German Caucasian origin
- no relationship between the study participants
Exclusion Criteria
- subgingival PA therapy within 6 months prior to sample collection
- systemic antibiotic therapy within 3 months before sample collection
- Pregnancy/nursing period
