简要总结
Background: Cricket players often face high physical and psychological demands that can lead to performance-related anxiety and sleep disturbances. These issues negatively impact cognitive functions, reaction time, coordination, and overall athletic performance. Despite increasing awareness of mental health in sports, there is limited research on physiotherapy-based interventions as a holistic approach to address these concerns in cricketers.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions in reducing anxiety, improving sleep quality, and enhancing cricket performance among players aged 18–25.
Methods: This quasi-experimental pre-post study will involve 53 male cricket players meeting specific inclusion criteria (moderate anxiety per SAS-2, active at district/state/national level). The intervention will last six weeks and include diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing, alternate nostril breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, core strengthening, balance training, and sleep hygiene education. Assessments will be done at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks using:
- Anxiety: Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2)
- Sleep Quality: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)
- Performance: Ruler drop test, agility T-test, grip strength, bowling accuracy, batting strike rate, and fielding efficiency.
Data will be analyzed using paired t-tests, independent t-tests, and Pearson correlation (p < 0.05 considered significant).
Expected Outcome: Physiotherapy interventions are anticipated to significantly reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality, thereby enhancing physical and cognitive performance in cricket players.
Conclusion: This study will highlight the role of physiotherapy as a non-pharmacological and integrative strategy to promote psychological well-being and athletic performance in competitive cricket.
