SSD CI recipients
1. diagnosed with SSD according to the definition of Vincent et al. (2015): hearing of the poorer ear: profound sensorineural hearing loss bordering on deafness; hearing of the better ear: air conduction hearing threshold in the range up to and including 4 kHz = 30 dB HL.
2. fitted with a CI on the right.
3. = 6 months of hearing experience with CI.
NH subjects
1. hearing in both ears: Air conduction hearing threshold in the range 125-8000 Hz = 20 dB HL.
All groups
1. age < 18 years and > 65 years
2. left-handed
3. relevant neurological or psychiatric disease
4. medical conditions that would indicate inadequate compliance with PET
5. pregnancy, breast feeding, current desire to have children
6. past study-associated radiation exposure
7. occupational exposure to radiation
8. participants who refuse the report of incidental findings.
