Multiple trauma
Mechanical ventilation
Admission to the intensive care unit within 24 hours of trauma
Age 18-70 years
Exclusion Criteria
History of pulmonary diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Pulmonary contusion
Pneumothorax
Cardiovascular instability
