Patients:
Adult patients with episodic migraine, defined as 2 to 15 headache days per month, are diagnosed by a headache experienced neurologist according to the IHS classification version III (IHS, 2018). All patients must have been headache free for at least 48 hours on the day of the examination. After 48 hours, patients will also be contacted to ensure that they have been in the interictal migraine phase. Recruitment takes place in the headache outpatient department of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf.
Control subjects:
Healthy persons who correspond to the patient group in terms of age and sex. Control subjects must not suffer from headache more than once a month and must not meet the criteria for primary headache disorder, except for rare episodic tension headache.
- Pregnancy, breast-feeding
- Pain medications on more than 10 days per month to rule out medication-overuse headache
- internistic, psychiatric or neurological pre-existing disorders
- acute pain including toothache and muscles soreness
- Further chronic pain disorder (back pain, neck pain, etc.) for at least 6 weeks, occurs on >4 days per week and reaches an intensity > 20/100 on the visual analogue scale (VAS).
- Skin disease in the reference area of the N.trigeminus (1st branch) or in the area of the forearm
