Inclusion Criteria
Patients must be referred for echocardiography with a question of heart failure or clinical data that may fit into this suspicion. Patients must be 18 years or older and must be able to give informed consent.
Exclusion Criteria
Acutely dyspnoic patients that cannot be properly investigated (for instance they cannot tolerate the supine position for a short period of time).

Name Time Method <p>The primary outcome is the diagnostic performance of the index test (bedside<br /><br>JVP measurement), compared with the two reference tests (echocardiography and<br /><br>serum BNP concentration). </p><br>

Name Time Method <p>The secondary outcome is the feasibility of reliably measuring JVP at the<br /><br>bedside. The subjective report of the residents concerning different aspects of<br /><br>the quality of the measurement are used to establish this outcome.</p><br>
