Inclusion Criteria
Patients who are 20 years of age or more with chronic heart failure in New York Heart Association functional classes II and III, a left ventricular ejection fraction lower than 40%, and a resting heart rate of 75 beats per minute or higher in sinus rhythm despite optimal medical therapy for heart failure including beta-blockers.
Exclusion Criteria
Patients with congenital heart disease, severe valvular diseases, active myocarditis, myocardial infarction within the previous 8 weeks, ventricular or atrioventricular pacing >40% of 24 hours, persistent atrial fibrillation or flutter, or symptomatic hypotension.
