Inclusion Criteria

Patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (with at least 6 months of diagnosis time);non-smokers; without coexisting pathologies such as diabetes; hypertension and kidney disease;cardiovascular diseases; rheumatic diseases and any other diseases involving an inflammatory process; without the use of a vitamin-mineral supplement; who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research, with the consent materialized by signing the Informed Consent Term.

Exclusion Criteria

Patients who changed city and/or state; who did not have telephone contact;who discontinued use of the supplement; who did not attend the collection of biological material

Supplementation with zinc gluconate recovered the nutritional status of patients in relation to the mineral, however there was no correlation between plasma and erythrocyte zinc levels and the cytokines analyzed (IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 , IFN-? and TNF-a) at any time of supplementation.
