Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •Adult patients of ASA grade 1 and 2 status undergoing pulmonary lobectomy or pneumonectomy by open technique

Exclusion Criteria

  • •Patients undergoing non-anatomical lung resections like wedge resections or metastatectomies
  • •Patients who have received neoadjuvant radiotherapy to the lung
  • •Unreliable for medium term follow-up
  • •Patients with permanent tracheostomies
  • •Patients with oro-facial anomalies (unable to perform spirometry)
  • •Lower limb amputations / abnormalities (e.g. arthritis) - unable to perform 6 minute walk test
  • •Thoracoscopic resections
  • •Patients undergoing repeat surgeries of the thorax or lower limb before the 3 month follow up (e.g. re-exploration, metastatectomy)
