All adult patients scheduled for non cardiothoracic surgery
All adult patients scheduled for non neurosurgery
An anticipated general anesthesia duration of 4 h or more
A moderate to high risk of postoperative pulmonary complications
ASA classification at least 2
Postoperative observation at surgical ICU
Body mass index greater than 35
Life threatening condition requiring emergency surgery
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
Pregnancy
Tracheostomy patients
Contraindicated in using HFNC after extubation
