To study whether children taking iron syrup maintain their iron levels in their blood

Consecutive children aged 1 year to 5 years
without clinical anaemia, attending our pediatrics outpatient
services.
1. Receiving treatment for Anaemia
2. Received blood transfusion in the last 6 months
3. Clinical features suggestive of haemoglobinopathies / hemolytic
anemia/ bleeding disorders including thrombocytopenia
4. Children with undernutrition (weight for stature < 3 rd percentile in
IAPchart)
5. History and/or clinical examination suggestive of ongoing
infection/ inflammatory disease (currently or within a month)
6. Children on long term steroids / Immunosuppressives
7. Chronic organic or metabolic disease (congenital heart disease,
liver disease, interstitial lung disease, immunodeficiency states,
cognitive dysfunction)
