Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • All patients with renal dysfunction due to any etiology who have been prescribed heparin-free hemodialysis from a nephrologist will be considered eligible for this study if they are above 18 years of age and satisfy ANY of the following criteria
  • 1)Patients suffering from thrombocytopenia (Platelet < 50,000/cumm).
  • 2)Patients with coagulopathy with either INR > 2 or aPTT > 40 seconds.
  • 3)Patients with evidence of acute or active bleeding from any site.
  • 4)Patients suffering from any bleeding diathesis.
  • 5)Patients receiving any form of systemic anticoagulation in therapeutic doses.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Patients who meet ANY of the following criteria will be excluded:
  • 1)Patients unable to attain and tolerate hemodialysis at blood flow >= 250ml/min.
  • 2)Patient planned to receive blood products during hemodialysis.
  • 3)Patients suffering from a known thrombophilic state.
  • 4)Patient unwilling to give written informed consent to participate in the study.
