Inpatient treatment in one of the participating intensive care units
- Presence of a diagnosis of pneumonia on admission or during the course of treatment
- Community acquired pneumonia (CAP)
- Hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP)
- Ventilator acquired pneumonia (VAP)
- Signed declaration of consent by the patient or alternatively by the legal representative in case of full legal capacity
- Completion of the 18th year of life
The following criteria lead to the exclusion or not possible inclusion of patients:
- Lack of informed consent
- Missing pneumonia diagnosis
- Patient included in an intervention study
- Contraindication for further blood collection (acute bleeding etc.)
- Absence of an inserted catheter suitable for collection
- Patient age under 18 years
