1.Age more than 18 years
2.Patients willing for participation in the study.
3.All patients presenting in emergency with secondary peritonitis on clinical examination and radiological investigations.
1.Patients operated outside GMCH and later referred to the centre.
2.Patients with other causes of raised procalcitonin levels which include chronic renal disease, neuro-endocrine tumours, heat stroke, Kawasaki disease, graft vs host disease, following granulocyte transfusions, treatment with interleukin-2 and carcinoid syndrome.
3.Patients with other causes of peritonitis which includes spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and tertiary peritonitis.
