1) age older than 18 years old; 2) admission from the emergency department or general ward with sepsis or septic shock defined by The Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock (Sepsis-3); 3) on controlled mechanical ventilation, and 4) require fluid challenge by physician's discretion.
cardiac arrhythmia, valvular heart disease, intracardiac shunt, intra-abdominal hypertension, contraindication for sedation, contraindication for using a neuromuscular blocking agent, and pregnancy.
