Inclusion Criteria

Eligible patients were all adults aged 19 or over with sustained cervical or lumbar pain of 5 or over in pain intensity using Visual Analog Scale, irresponsive to conservative treatment, all who were referred for epidural steroid injection from orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons of spine-specialized center in our hospital.

Exclusion Criteria

Exclusion criteria were; (1) absolute or relative contraindication to the ESI (uncontrolled coagulopathy, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, active systemic or local infection, and allergy to contrast medium or injected drugs), (2) history of adverse event after epidural steroid injection, (3) pregnancy or nursing, (4) participated in other study using ESI, and (5) underwent ESI in current 2 weeks.
