- Brief Summary
This study is a randomized controlled, parallel designed, single blinded study comparing the safety and efficacy of two acne scar resurfacing procedures namely microdermabrasion and Er:yag laser. After randomization 52 patients underwent mirodermabrasion and 50 patients underwent Er:YAG laser resurfacing. In each group patients underwent 4-6 sessions of treatment. Patients were followed up at 1 and 6 months after last treatment session. The primary outcome (clinical improvement) was assessed by a blinded dermatologist through photographic comparison before and after treatment. Simultaneously improvement was assessed by investigator (ECCA score) and patients (questionnaire) also. The secondary outcomes assessed were side effects and change in quality of life in partients in each group.

Adult males or females with atrophic acne scars of grades 2,3 and 4.
- •Age less than 12 years and greater than 60 years.
- •Pregnant and lactating women.
- •Active acne.
- •Coexisting inflammation in adjacent skin secondary to dermatological diseases such as psoriasis, lichen planus, eczemas, acne.
- •Keloidal tendency.
- •On isotretinoin for last 6 months to 1 year.
- •Patients with unrealistic expectations or psychiatric illnesses.
- •Preexisting bleeding disorder, renal or hepatic diseases.
