• Regular running training (=4 hours per week) and participation in running competitions (athlete groups)
• Little or no physical activity, as defined by exercise-related energy expenditure of = 2 metabolic units per week (sedentary groups)
• Age between 20 and 35 (young groups)
• Age between 60 and 75 (old groups)
• Male
• Body mass index = 25 kg/m²
• Ability to consent
• Agreement and signed informed consent before the study
• Injuries or disorders that interfere with calf muscle contractions or with vertical jump testing
• Contraindications against magnetic resonance scanning
• Contraindications against muscle biopsy
• Diabetes
• Any condition classed as unsuitable by the executive medical director
