Inclusion Criteria

Female gender, premenopausal
- Symptomatic, community-acquired, uncomplicated urinary tract infection; defined according to the criteria of the current AWMF guideline (4) BEFORE antibiotic therapy.
- Written informed consent to participate in the study.

Exclusion Criteria

- Evidence of more serious or other urogenital infection including fever, flank pain, renal pelvic palpitation, vaginal discharge, and vaginal pain.
- Pregnancy
- Diabetes mellitus and other relevant metabolic diseases
- Kidney disease
- Taking medications that affect the genitourinary tract
- Immunosuppression
