1) Unilateral lower limb radicular pain at the time of admission.
2) Presence of any one of specific nerve root tension signs like,
- Straight leg raising, 60 degree or lesser
- Motor weakness at or below the level of herniation
- Sensory deficit at or below level of herniation.
3) Extrusion or sequestration of intervertebral disc at L3-4/L4-L5/L5-S1 level on MRI of lumbosacral spine.
4) Herniated disc observed on magnetic resonance imaging scans
1)Multiple level intervertebral disc prolapse.
2)Previous spinal surgery.
3)Radiological instability at same level.
4)Spinal canal stenosis.
5)Cauda equina syndrome.
6) Recurrent lumbar disc prolapse.
