1. Hospitalized children from age 2 months till 12 years
2.Diagnosed as pneumonia based on following criteria:
A.Fever, cough, difficulty in breathing B. B. B.Tachypnea (with/without chest retractions) defined as per WHO /IMCI age specific criteria
a)2 months to 12 months: Respiratory Rate > 50
b)12 months till 5 years: Respiratory Rate > 40
c) >5 years: Respiratory Rate >30
1.Recurrent Pneumonia
2.Congenital Heart Disease
3.Severe Acute Malnutrition
4.Tuberculosis
5.Children on zinc supplements
6.Documented allergy /Intolerance to zinc
7.Chronic systemic illness
8.Congenital GI malformations
9.Hyper-reactive Airway Disease
10.Radiological findings inconsistent with diagnosis of pneumonia
