Children between the ages of completed 5 years and completed 18 years hospitalized with acute exacerbation of asthma
1. Use of antibiotics during the 30 days prior to enrolment in study and documented fever (temp >38 degree celsius)
2. contraindication for use of azithromycin
3. Significant medical co-morbidity: Congenital and acquired heart disease, chronic lung disease, tuberculosis, cholestatic jaundice
4. Life threatening exacerbation requiring PICU admissions.
5. children already enrolled in the study and presenting within 60 days of discharge from hospital.

Name Time Method 1. number of Emergency Department re-visit for troublesome asthma symptoms within next 60 days after discharge from hospital. <br/ ><br>2.Persistence of symptoms (cough and/or subjective breathlessness) beyond 1 week after discharge from hospital. <br/ ><br>3.Time to next exacerbation during 60 days after discharge. <br/ ><br>4.Admission to ICU. <br/ ><br>5.Change in Pulmonary Index Score during admission.Timepoint: 60 days
