- Brief Summary
Cardiac arrest is a significant cause of death and hasemerged as a major public health issue across the globe. The mortality insudden cardiac arrest in India is approximately 4280/100,000 in contrast to 60–151/100,000inhabitants in the United States. It also accounts for more than 60% of allcardiac deaths. Every minute’s delay in resuscitation of the cardiac arrestvictim reduces the chance of survival by 7%–10%. However, if CPR is performedimmediately by someone nearby, the chance of survival of victims can double ortriple.1
Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS) coursetrains participants to promptly recognize life-threatening emergencies, givehigh-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provideearly use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)2. Adequateknowledge and awareness about Cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) must bemandatory for the healthcare workers which will in turn lead to huge impact onpatient’s survival.
Cardiopulmonaryresuscitation (CPR) is a crucial medical technique that is performed manuallyto preserve intact brain function. Early initiation of CPR manoeuvres andactivation of the chain of survival are key factors in the prognosis ofpatients with cardiorespiratory arrest (CRA). Inadequacy in any step of CPR dueto a lack of knowledge or skill is associated with a poor return of spontaneouscirculation and a decreased survival rate.3
Paramedical staff/ paramedics encompasses nurses, therapists, technicians, and other ancillary personnel involved in medicalcare but is frequently applied specifically to highly trained persons whoshare with physicians the direct responsibility for patient care.4 Toour knowledge, there is currently limited research on Knowledge, Attitude andPractice (KAP) regarding CPR among paramedical staff in north India. To gain abetter understanding of the latest status of paramedics about the knowledge ofCPR we plan to conduct an online survey in tertiary care centres.
In the present study, we will conduct an online surveywith the objective to analyse the level of KAP regarding CPR among paramedicalstaff working at tertiary care centres. This information will provide a usefulreference for planning timely training sessions. Also, it may provide baselineinformation for other researchers and health professional who are interested insame area.
