Inclusion Criteria
All patients who will undergo elective surgery and who need a central venous catheter or patients who need a central venous catheter for antibiotics or parenteral nutrition.
Exclusion Criteria
Exclusion criteria were <18 years of age, coagulopathy (with INR > 1.5, activated partial thromboplastine time >1.5 and platelets < 50.000mm3), neck or head surgery in the past, radiation therapy of the neck, local infection of the skin, known thyroid pathology and skeletal deformities

Name Time Method <p>Primairy endpoints are succesful cannulation, the number of attempts (where one<br /><br>attempt is defined as a pass of the needle through the skin and than pulling<br /><br>back the needle. Puncturing again on the same puncture place but in the same or<br /><br>another direction or another skin puncture is defined as next attempt) and the<br /><br>rate of complications (pneumothorax, major bleeding, local hematoma, carotis<br /><br>artery puncture and nerve puncture).</p><br>
