1.Consecutive patients admitted with the diagnosis of severe Acute Exacerbation of COPD.
2.Able to give informed consent.
3.Age between 40- 70 years
4. Severe AE-COPD will be defined as an event in the natural course of the disease characterised by a change in the patientâ??s baseline dyspnoea, cough, and/or sputum production that is beyond the normal day-to-day variations, acute in onset, and with sufficient severity warranting admission in the hospital.(GOLD guidelines 2018)
1.Admission because of reasons other than disease severity (distance, humanitarian concerns, etc.)
2.Not ready to give informed consent,
3.Pregnancy
4.Unfit to undergo CTPA because of impaired renal function or iodine allergy
5.Ongoing anticoagulant treatment for previous VTE or any other indication
6.Known hypercoagulable states like Protein C, S or AT deficiency or Factor V Leiden mutation.
Associated malignancy, left sided heart failure, or a debilitating neurological disease
