Inclusion Criteria
Indication to perform colonoscopy in the presence of concomitant liver cirrhosis with ascites
- Age at least 18
Exclusion Criteria
- Contraindication to ascites puncture (e.g., uncontrolled coagulopathy).
- Presence of SBP prior to performing colonoscopy
- Pregnancy and lactation

Name Time Method Evidence of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis or bacterascites within 72 h of performing colonoscopy. <br><br>Diagnostic criteria of SBP: neutrophil count in ascites >/= 250/µl with or without positive ascites culture.<br><br>Diagnostic Criteria Bacterascites: <br>Positive ascites culture + neutrophil count <250/µl
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Total ascitic fluid protein concentration, postinterventional development of renal failure, initiation/adjustment of antibiotic therapy, occurrence of sepsis, admission to intensive care unit, survival time.
