Assessment of mesiodistal and faciopalatal dimensions of interproximal area with the presence of interdental papillae and thickness of gingiva in faciopalatal dimension in maxillary anterior teeth.
- Conditions
- Absence of periodontal disease

- Brief Summary
This study will beconducted to evaluateand correlate the mesiodistal and faciopalatal horizontal and verticaldimensions of interproximal area with the presence of interdental papilla andgingival biotype in maxillary anterior teeth in periodontally healthy males andfemales.Total of 120subjects with age range of 20-40 years including both male and female visitingthe Department of Periodontics at VSPM Dental College and Research Centre,Nagpur will be recruited.
Study populationwill be divided into 2 groups:
**Group I** – 60 periodontally healthymales in the age range of 20-40 years.
**Group II** - 60 periodontally healthyfemales in the age range of 20-40 years.
Written informed consent will be taken from thepatients who wish to enroll in the study. Alginate impressions of the maxillary archwill be taken in stock metal tray and poured in dental stone, according to themanufacturer’s instructions to obtain the study model of the patient. Frontalview photographs of the subjects will be taken during rest and natural smiling.Periapical radiographic picture of maxillary anterior teeth using parallelingcone technique with a XCP device will be recorded with RVG.
Presence and absence of interdental papillaewill be analysed clinically.
On radiograph, the distance from the alveolarcrest to the apical point of the radiopaque material (that is applied to thetip of the interdental papilla) will be recorded as the vertical dimension of theinterproximal area and the horizontal distance between thecementoenamel junction of approximal teeth will be recorded as the mesiodistalhorizontal dimension of interproximal papillae.
Digital vernier calliper will be used tomeasure faciopalatal dimension of interproximal papillae on alginate impressions.
To determine gingivalthickness, an endodontic spreader with a rubber stopper will be insertedperpendicularly into the gingiva on the mid buccal aspect of the respectivetooth just 2mm apical to the gingival margin and then this distance from tip ofthe endodontic spreader to the rubber stopper will be measured using digitalvernier calliper.
