Brief Summary

Ethical approval of this study will be taken from the student project committee and ethical committee

of Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Study will be done in

accordance with Helsinki declaration revised 2013 and the National Ethical Guidelines for

Biomedical Research involving Human Participants, 2017.

the objective of the planned study is to comparehand and pinch grip strength among high and low adolescent smartphone usersalong with exploring anthropometric factors associated with variations in handand pinch grip strength.

Participants between 10 and 18 years will berecruited after fulfilling the selection criteria. Hand measurements (handlength, hand width, palm length and maximum spread of hand) will be taken usinga measuring tape. Hand and pinch grip strength measurements will be assessedusing Baseline Hydraulic Handheld Dynamometer and Hydraulic Pinch Gauge. Thecomparison will be done by grouping the participants under two categories: highand low users using the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS)-Short version. Furtherthumb pain due to smartphone usage will be assessed using Visual Analog Scale (VAS)**.**Outcome measures shall be Baseline Hydraulic Handheld Dynamometer,Hydraulic Pinch Gauge and Visual Analog Scale (VAS).

Inclusion Criteria

1.Sedentary lifestyle 2.Age 10 to18 years 3.Male and female 4.Able to follow verbal commands 5.Regularly using an Android/IOS mobile phone.

Exclusion Criteria

1.History of hand and wrist fracture/ injury 2.History of nerve injuries related to upper limb 3.Neuromuscular disorders of upper limb 4.Professional sportsmen and/or recreational players.
