1.Age of patients greater than 12 years with localized alopecia areata over scalp.
2.Presence of five or fewer patches of alopecia areata, involving less than 50% scalp area
1.Patients who have received topical or oral treatment for alopecia areata in the past 1 month.
2.Alopecia areata over areas other than scalp.
3.Presence of ophiasis, diffuse alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis patients.
4.Other coexisting hair disorder diagnosed based on clinical history and examination (trichotillomania, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, tinea capitis)
5.Pregnancy
6.Presence of any contraindication or allergy for topical corticosteroids or topical methotrexate.
7.Patient having steroid induced side effects like atrophy, telangiectasia etc.
8.Patients who are not willing to participate.
