Inclusion Criteria
- patients receiving surgery through a thoracotomy incision
Exclusion Criteria
- patients with cardiovascular disease
- patients with neurologic disease
- patients with contraindications to paravertebral block or epidural block
- patients with history of previous thoracotomy incision
- patients with pain at the expected incision site
