Elderly people who were over 65 but under 85 years of age
- Those who were diagnosed with essential hypertension
- Those with clear consciousness (candidates who scored less than 9 points on the Mini-Mental State Examination-Dementia Screening—MMSE-DS)
- Those who have not experienced applying auricular acupressure
- Those who had lesions or tape reactions in both ears
- Those who were receiving other complementary and alternative therapies (aromatherapy, hand acupuncture, etc.)
- Those who were taking medicinal sleep aids
