1. All (old or new) diagnosed patients of bronchial asthma (age group 18-55 years of either sex who will be started on inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) for the next 4 weeks according to GINA (global initiative for asthma) guidelines (standard treatment of care) coming to a medicine unit of Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, New DelhI (Out patient department/ In patient department) will be included.
For Healthy Volunteers:
1. Attendants of the patients who are not having any known illness and are not on any type medication will be included with their consent. Further, any healthy person who is willing to participate will also be included.
1. Patients who have taken corticosteroids in any form in last 4 weeks
2. Patient with any other co-existent and active pulmonary infection
3. Imminent respiratory arrest as indicated by-
a.Drowsy/confused patient
b.Paradoxical thoraco-abdominal movements with respiration
c.Absent wheeze
d.Bradycardia (pulse <60 per minute)
4. Evidence of active infection on chest X-ray
5. Pregnancy
6. Clinical evidence of any connective tissue disorders
7. Unwillingness to give consent.
