Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •elective surgery under general anesthesia (total intravenous or balanced general anesthesia) with the induction drugs sufentanil, propofol and rocuronium
  • •\- ASA status I, II or III
  • •\- Patient consent

Exclusion Criteria

  • •\- Marked edema or skin defects on the patient's fingers or hand
  • •\- Heart failure (New York Heart Association (NYHA) stage II or greater)
  • •\- Atrial fibrillation or other higher\-grade cardiac arrhythmia
  • •\- peripheral arterial disease (Fontaine stage \> 2\)
  • •\- central regional anesthesiology procedures
  • •\- suspected or documented difficult airway
  • •\- induction of anesthesia as rapid sequence induction
