Inclusion Criteria
- initiating enteral nutrition within the first 24-48h after intensive care unit (ICU) admission
- age more than 18 years
- Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score >8
Exclusion Criteria
- not expected to survive 24 hours
- pregnancy
- any terminal stage disease
