Morphine intravenous vs. Paracetamol intravenous in children on ECMO - Morphine iv vs. paracetamol iv in children on ECMOPatients treated with Extra Corporal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) receive morphine as standardised analgesic drug. Morphine is associated with several side effects. In these patients a non-opioid drug could be effective for postoperative pain relief of ECMO cannula insertion and during ECMO treatment. When pre-ECMO analgesics are stopped after cannulation, intermittent administration of intravenous paracetamol to children during the ECMO run, will lead to a 25% reduction of morphine consumption.EUCTR2009-014892-31-NLErasmusMC - Sophia

Morphine intravenous vs. Acetaminophen intravenous in neonates and young infants undergoing major non-cardiac surgery. - Morphine iv vs. Acetaminophen ivPatients after non-cardiac thoracic or abdominal major surgery receive Morphine as pain relief medication whereas this is associated with Morphine related side effects. In these patients a non-opioid drug could be appropriate for postoperative pain relief. Intermittent administration of intravenous Acetaminophen, to young infants up to 48 hrs after major surgery e.g. thoracic and abdominal, will lead to a clinically significant (>30%) morphine sparing effectEUCTR2007-005619-24-NLErasmusmMC/ Sophia Children Hospital
