Study participants were mother infant pairs, recruited at 2-3 weeks post-partum from a local maternity hospital in a low-income community in Rabat, Morocco at the time of BCG vaccination of infants.
-Mothers were eligible for the study if they were breastfeeding a single infant who was apparently healthy and if they planned to breastfeed for at least 6 mo postpartum
-Mothers aged <18 y
-presence of acute infections, chronic diseases or signs or symptoms of vitamin A deficiency
-Women who became pregnant during the study
