Comparison of failure rates of orthodontic fixed lingual retainers bonded with four light cured adhesives A prospective in vivo study

Retention is an important phase after the completion of orthodontic treatment.In some cases,it is necessory to keep th lingual retainer in place for a long time to prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions.All factors priorly researched and found to affect the in vivo stability or survival of fixed lingual retainers includind the usage of liquis resin,the type of different wire used,and the adhesive’s polymerisation technique throughout the time of bonding procedure.Relapse is frequently the result of failure of retainer or loss.Retainer failure can happen with wire fracture,at the enamel-composite contact,or at the composite-wire interface.The enamel-composite contact has been the source of the majority of recorded failures,and wire fracture are known to be directly correlates with the retainer’s age;the longer it remains in place,the risk of breakage wiil be higher.There are two types of fixed lingual retainer failure;partial and complete.The partial failure is indicated by attachement loss from one or more teeth,wherein full failure is indicated by completly falling of the teeth.complete failure is prefereable from a clinical standpoint to partial failure since the latter may be neglected by patient and lead to a return of the teeth back to their pretreatment state.This sudy is proposed to be conducted to compare bond strength of fixed lingual retainer with four different adhesive’s that is Tertic N flow(ivoclar),3M (Espe supreme flowable composite).Enlight ormco,Transbond XT light cured composite.
