Inclusion criteria
? Stroke patients who are admitted to the hospital within 7 days of onset
? Adult patients over 19 years old
? Stroke should be diagnosed by neurologist or neurosurgeon (confirmed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance image)
? First-ever ischemic stroke patient
? Initial Korean version of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (K-NIHSS) score is 1 to 5 points
? Patients who agree to participate in the educational intervention program
Exclusion criteria
? Patient who was admitted to the hospital after 8 days of onset
? Transient ischemic attack
? History of previous stroke with definite clinical symptoms
? Under 19 years old or over 75 years old
? Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) is more than 2 before stroke attack
? The Korean Mini Mental State Examination(K-MMSE) score is less than 20 points
? Progressive or unstable stroke
? Pre-existing and active major neurological disease
? Pre-existing and active (e.g., on chronic medication) major psychiatric disease, such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disease or dementia
? Advanced liver, kidney, cardiac, or pulmonary disease
? A terminal medical diagnosis consistent with survival <1 year
