A study to assess the effectiveness of a Pediatric Basic Life Support Training Program on knowledge and skill of school teachers in selected schools of Punjab.

Summary:

The study focuses on the importance of Pediatric Basic Life Support (BLS), a crucial emergency measure to save the lives of children during cardiac or respiratory arrest. School teachers, being the first responders in school settings, play a vital role in managing such emergencies. However, their knowledge and skills regarding pediatric BLS are often inadequate.

This research adopts a quasi-experimental design (pre-test post-test control group design) to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured training program. The training is designed to enhance teachers’ understanding and practical skills in pediatric BLS, including assessment of responsiveness, airway management, chest compressions, and rescue breathing.

Data is collected using a structured questionnaire (for knowledge) and an observational checklist (for skills). The findings are expected to reveal significant improvement in the knowledge and skills of teachers after training, thereby highlighting the importance of incorporating pediatric BLS training for school personnel.

Conclusion:

The study emphasizes that pediatric BLS training for teachers can significantly improve their emergency response capacity, ensure safer school environments and potentially saving young lives during critical situations.
