Inclusion Criteria:
1.Subjects with DSM IV-TR clinical diagnosis of Major depressive disorder.
2.Severity of depression- mild to moderate.
3.Drug-free for >= 6 months.
4.Age from 18 â?? 60 years
5.Both sexes
6.Patients who opt for yoga therapy as the primary treatment.
7.Yoga-naive subjects (i.e., the participant should not have participated in more than 4 yoga sessions in the past 2 years and not more than 1 session in the past month)
Exclusion Criteria:
1.Co-morbid substance abuse (excluding nicotine dependence), psychosis, suicidal and self-injurious behaviour, mental retardation, any other DSM IV-TR anxiety disorders, OCD and related disorders.
2.Severe depression with catatonic symptoms, suicidal risk (suicidal score >3) or severe psychomotor retardation, requiring in-patient care or electroconvulsive therapy(ECT)
3.On antidepressant medication.
4.Bipolar depression.
5.Currently pregnant or lactating.
6.Subjects with severe physical ailments like general medical conditions like coronary artery disease, fracture, seizure disorders, autoimmune disorders, chronic fever and those on treatment with immune-modulating agents.
7.Patients not opting for yoga therapy as primary treatment.
